Hence a timing belt change on a VAG 1.0 3-cylinder petrol engine requires the proper tools, i.e. a timing tool kit (GAT5140 in the case of the VAG 1.0 3-cylinder petrol engine) and the appropriate camshaft pulley holding tool (GAT4844) and the crankshaft holding tool (GAT5169). The first step is to put the engine’s first cylinder in top dead
The 1.2 with the VVT is interference as far as I know (earlier ones were not) so if the belt brakes or you get the timing significantly wrong the valves and pistons will get very intimate with each other, and, as is so often the case with close intimacy, it is likely to end in tears! We lift the engine hood, remove the engine soundproofing panel and the metal belt cover. With a suitable fixed wrench we loosen the belt tensioner roller and remove the belt from its seat. Location. Endmoor. Mar 18, 2017. #3. Think it's still 5 years/72k- whichever's first. Official Fiat belt kit (belt, tensioner and water pump) isn't that expensive. And if you trust an independent mechanic, use them. Have oil change maybe at same time (5w 40 C3). If the car not 5 years old exactly it could last a little longer, not worth the risk.

Might as well replace the cambelt while your at it. A new tensioner will be around £20 and comes as part of the "cambelt change kit". A camblet change on your engine, including a new tensioner would probably cost around £150 to £200 depending. Worth having a go at diagnosing it yourself though first, just to make sure.

1) make sure the engine is cold. 1) Remove the resonator and air box etc from the engine. 3) Remove the keys from the ignition!! 4) Remove the first 2 spark plugs (the ones closest to the cambelt side). 5) Insert the knitting needle into one hole. Make sure it is straight. Make sure it is sitting on the piston. With the belt moved away, detach the belt tensioner assembly and the alternator fixing bolts, before positioning the alternator clear of the timing chain cover. Now remove the six bottom pulley retaining bolts, bottom pulley, main crankshaft pulley bolt and bottom pulley boss. Lower the vehicle back to ground level, remove the ignition coil i use contitech, never had a problem, people have advised me against gates belts. my bravo is on a dayco and has been fine but then again id hope it is after only 2 months , from 'word of mouth'' dayco is seen as the one to go for if not getting fiat parts. and as for cambelt replacements, im going to stick with fiats recommendations on my punto (8 yrs/72k ) still never seen a fiat cambelt go
Im cool with the locking the shafts and all but I can't find reference marks to line up with for starters. scenario: one of your piston con rods does heavy damage to the bottom half of your engine and somehow manages to bend 1 exhaust valve. you need a total replacement sub assembly (Cylinder block/crankcase, pistons, connectiong rods, crank
